"In 1840, John Clark envisioned a bustling city where the Miami-Erie Canal intersected with the road that is now called Main Street (state Route 571). Taking advantage of the strategic location along the busy waterway, Clark required that no log structures be built. Therefore, buildings were constructed of frame and brick, many of which remain today in the historic "canal town" downtown area, with 88 buildings listed on the registry for historical buildings. Clark named the fledgling city "Tippecanoe" in honor of William Henry Harrison, until 1938 when the legal name was shortened to Tipp City. What sparked the birth of the city, proximity to major transportation routes, continues to be the catalyst for the community's popularity today. It is located on Interstate 75 between exits 68 and 69, just minutes north of I-70. "
