"One thing the city is trying not to take a passive approach on is the issue of the urban deer population within the city and surrounding area. The debate has generated much discussion and has focused on some of the trouble caused by the deer overpopulation. "We are seeing more deervehicle collisions and more property damage," said Cook. "We need to find some way where people who enjoy the deer on their property and those who find it destructive are not forced to tolerate it. Urban deer are different because they are not afraid of anything. People who care about deer tend to dismiss the damage deer can do to property. We have learned from our citizens what they find acceptable and not acceptable. The controversy and publicity has helped bring focus to the trouble not only to our community but surrounding communities. Hopefully, we can work together to find a solution."
